Term 2 Week 5 Learning Log

Monday


We continued with the fun activity. Ms Marly told us to push the tables and chairs to the side of the window as usual. Then she asked for 10 volunteers. As there are not many of us volunteered themselves, Ms Marly had no choice but to randomly picked some of us. Ms Marly told them to imagined that they are a burglar trying to entered a mansion full of expensive things such a jeweleries. Firsty, they had to imagined that they are trying to entered a mansion through a window. Secondly, they had to find something that they want to steal. Thirdly, Ms Marly said that there were footsteps and they had to hide themselves. Some of them hide behind the teacher table while some tried to hide under the tables. Fourthly, they had to continue finding something while they are hiding and took it with them. Fifthly, they had to carry along the thing that they had stolen out of the window and went out of the mansion through the same window. Some of the volunteers did was they threw the thing that they had stolen out of the window before they,themselves, went of out the window. Overall, the volunteers were cooperative and creative. After that, Ms Marly told them to go back to their own seats. As everybody sat down at their own place, Ms Marly told us that the next activity involved all of us. She said that we are going to do a 'Moving Picture'. To start the activity, we required 1 person to start it. Ms Marly told Benedict to start first. As he had started the activity, the rest of us must tried to add on to it. There's no dialog but just the actions of us in the 'Moving Pictures'. Basically, not everyone got to add on to the 'Moving Picture' as shortage of time. Overall, the 'Moving Picture' that some of us had done was nice and and they used their creativity and imagination. After that, we are required to arrange back the tables and chairs to its original place as usual. Ms Marly gave us some briefing with regards on the Macbeth that we are going to play on 9 April 2010 before the lessons ended. We will not be having Literature lessons on Friday due to Good Friday.

No school due to Good Friday thus no Literature lesson.

Term 2 Week 4 Learning Log

Monday


We got back our Literature Common Test results. Mr Chua then went through some parts of the Literature Common Test. He then told us about our daily assignments and learning log marks. After he had settled all of it, he went out of classroom. Ms Marly took over the class. She told us to keep everything and pushed all the tables and chairs to the side of the window. Then she told us to gathered in the middle of of the classroom and then space out from the rest of our classmates so that we had space to do the activity. She told us to close our eyes and imagined ourselves walking either at a park, at a beach or anything. I imagined that I was walking alone in a park and I felt that I'm lost. Its quite weird but that's what I had imagined. After a few minutes, she told us to open our eyes and she questioned us about what we had imagined, the speed of walking and was it with heavy footsteps or light footsteps. There are some who willing to share about his or her imagination. After that we are required to walk around the space with the speed that she will tell us. Then she told us to walk with heavy footsteps and light footsteps. Some of us did heavy footsteps imagining that we are angry while for light footsteps, we imagining ourselves strolling in the park and essential. After the activity, she told us to form a group of 3 and sit with our group mates in a circle. Our group mates must be from different races. After everyone had formed into their own group, Ms Marly gave us each a piece of handout about a small project but a very important one which was about Macbeth. We needed to act ourselves as the witches in the play. This will be graded in our daily assignments and even in CA1. Ms Marly go through about the acting in the story of Macbeth. She said we will be acting it out on 9 April 2010. So, we must get ready the props, costumes and makeup ready before the big day. Last but not least, Ms Marly told us to hand in our March holiday homework which is the 'Love Brochure' before she ended the lessons.

Friday


We continued on the activity we had done before. This helped us to imagined what will the witches do in the play that we are going to play. Ms Marly told us to push the tables and chairs to the side of the window as usual so that we have space to carry out the activity. Then she told all the even numbers to go to the middle of the classroom. She told them to walk with heavy footsteps and then light footsteps. Basically, not everybody put in effort on it as some might feel embarrassed as the rest of the other classmates which is the odd number was sitting and looking at them. After they had done what they are supposed to do, they were then told to go back to their seats. Ms Marly asked a volunteer but seemed that no one wanted to volunteer themselves, Ms Marly randomly picked 1 of us which is Wei Xiang. She told Wei Xiang to demonstrate how he walked to school everyday. After Wei Xiang demonstrated it, Ms Marly asked the rest of us on what we think about Wei Xiang going to school. Some said that from his way of walking, he 's seemed lazy to go to school. That's what some of us think. After that, Ms Marly told the odd numbers to step out and then she wrote at the whiteboard about 3 characters, 'Child','Gangster' and 'Grandmother'. We needed to imagined ourselves as a child, gangster and grandmother. Some of us skipped when it comes to child, some of u walk with a big footstep when it comes to gangster and last but not least, some of us walked like a grandmother. Some of them used a chair as a support which was a creative way. After the fun activity, Ms Marly told us to arrange the tables and chairs back to its original place. She then gave us a short and quick briefing before the lesson ended.

Term 2 Week 3 Learning Log

Monday

Ms Marly came to our class and taught about 'Romeo & Juliet'. So basically, we are still learning about the topic 'Romeo & Juliet'. Ms Marly gave us a piece of handout about sonnet. It is about some phrase that Romeo described Juliet as. Then as Ms Marly went through the the phrase, we must write down what it means. As our class is noisy, our lessons were paused for awhile and then continued. Eventually, we could not managed to finish the piece of handout on that day because our class is noisy and Ms Marly have to explain to us clearly the meaning of the phrase so as we could understand what actually the phrase means.

Friday


Ms Marly came to our class and we continued on the piece of handout about the sonnet that we could not managed to finish it last Monday. After we done on the sonnet worksheet, we hand in the worksheet. Ms Marly then gave us a new piece of handout about something that related to 'Love'. Ms Marly then told us to fold the paper into 2 parts so as to know which is the first page and so on. We had a rather short activity where we have to find 5 boys and 5 girls and wrote down the qualities that he or she wants to have in their future partner. There are so many different types of qualities each person wants to have in their future partner. After we complete it, Ms Marly told us to get back to our seat. She then go through the words and meaning of 'Love' according to the Greeks. Mainly there are 3 types which are 'Eros', 'Philia' and 'Agape'. 'Eros' is the 1st so-called level of love which means 'Passionate love or belonging'. 'Philia' is the 2nd level of love which means 'Brotherhood and Friendship. Involves loyalty to friends,family and community.' Last but not least, 'Agape' which means 'A divine, unconditional and self-sacrificing affection. The highest and purest form of love.' After we filled up in our worksheet, Ms Marly said that the rest of the question we are required to do it as our March holiday homework.

Term 1 Week 9 Learning Log

Monday

Our trainee teacher Ms Marly came and taught us about Literature. She told us to form a group of 4. Mr group members are Amy,Zaimah and Reneita. So everybody was in their own group. Then she gave each group an envelope with stripes of 1 Shakespeare poem. The stripes were all not in order. We needed to put each line of the poem in order. Luckily Amy, she read about the poem before. Thus, it was not that difficult to solve it although we failed to solve it for about two times. But we did not want to give up just like that. We tried to correct some lines of it. Fortunately, we managed to solve it correctly. We then have to return the envelope with the stripes in it. We have to get back to our own seat as not to waste time. Time is precious. Then we were given a piece of worksheet. We need to complete it and handed it by this Friday.

Wednesday [Extra lessons after school]

Basically, we had to turn up for extra lessons after school. We need to assemble in the school library. Some my classmates said that it will start at 2.30pm. As we were release at 1.45pm, my friends and I had a quick lunch. Then we headed to the library. There are 2 Thinking class as well. Majority there were like half students in each class as some have not come up yet. Then Ms Marly group us. We were mixed with the 2 Thinking students. Then we were told to seat with our group mates. At the table, there are 2 piece of worksheet. We were told to take the one of the worskheet that we must come up with own questions and answer. We must work together as a group. Then after that, we were told to do the characterize worksheet about Merchant of Venice. But before that, we were told to watch a short video about Merchant of Venice. Then we need to write the character trait, the evidence and explanations in the worksheet. The explanations we needed to do it at home. After all of it we had finished, some students we called up. The person who were being called must stand up. My name was called up. I was rather shocked as I did not know why the others and I had to stand up. But we were then congratulated because we had completed until learning log 8. I was relieved after hearing that. Then the students who was being called up can go home while the ones that are not called up have to stay back. That's all for today Literature lesson.

Friday

We had our Literature lessons as usual. We were then told to line up outside. Then Mr Chua and Ms Marly brought us to the block D level 4 where there are big empty spaces. Mr Chua asked the ones who did not finish the questions that we must come up our own to stand up. Ms Marly brought them to the staircase and told them to finish it up. The ones who had done must find a partner. I partner with Reneita. Then with our own partner, we were told to seat face to face with each other. The first round, the ones who had the longest hair among our partner have to start first. I had to start first as my hair is more longer than Reneita's hair. We needed to ask 2 questions first. Our partner would then have to answer it and graded our question whether is it A for good question or B for useless question. Then after we had asked the 2 questions, we exchanged. Our own partner have to question us and we have to answer it. We then have to graded our partner as well too. Then the second round, we needed to find another partner of different race. My new partner is Pei Qing. The ones who have the biggest shoe size have to start first. I did not know my shoe size. Pei Qing was kind. She let me start first. I then asked her the remaining 2 questions. She then have to answer it. Basically, everything was the same except we worked with a new partner. The ones who had finished questioning each other had to stand up and move near the staircase while waiting for the others to finish. We were told to lower down our volume as the other classes were having their lessons. We must be considerate. Then Mr Chua told all of us to gather and line up in two. Then Mr Chua and Ms Marly brought us back to the classroom. We had a short brief before the lesson ended. We must hand up our question worksheet and the worksheet we were given last Monday to our Literature rep.
