Friday, January 22, 2010 7:59 PM   Term 1 Week 3 Learning Log Today we had our Literature lesson. So today we learnt about Merchant of Venice. Its about Antonio,Portia,Shylock and Bassanio. This are the main character in the story. I shall elaborate about the story which Mr Chua shared it with us.The story goes like tis ; Bassanio and Portia is a couple who love each other. Bassanio wishes to win her love but he is too poor to do so. So he seek help from his best friend called Antonio. Bassanio asked Antonio if he could lend him about 3000 ducats so that he could impressed Portia. Antonio who had an overseas business and waited to recieve his money bck, borrowed from a Jewish moneylander called Shylock. Shylock ageed to lend him money but to one condition. Antonio must pay back the money on the exact dae promised. But if he couldn`t manage to pay it on that day, Shylock will take one pound of Antonio`s flesh as payment. For the sake of his best friend, Antonio agreed. Bassanio and Portia married soon after. Unfortunately, a bad news arrives. Antonio`s ship sank to the bottom of the sea,thus, he could`t get his money back and could`t return the money which he borrowed frm Shylock. Shylock goes before the court of Venice to get his pound of flesh. Hearing that, Bassanio`s wife, Portia worked out a plan. She disguised herself as a male lawyer. The story thus continues. After that, Mr Chua gave us a task. We need to write out one of the character attitude which had been told. For example, I got a character which is about Portia. Ok. So its goes something like that. So thats all for today Literature lesson. |
