Sunday, January 31, 2010 12:42 PM    Term 1 week 4 Learning Log Monday We had our Literature lesson. We continued learning about 'Merchant of Venice'. We went through the homework that we required to do which was issued out on last Friday. So after we had a reading of the story in a dialog way, we look through our assignment and check whether we did it correctly or not. So Mr Chua let us have a partner to do with each other about the assignment. So this means that we need to re-do our assignment. We need to hand in by this Friday which we will be having our Literature lesson again. So that`s all for Monday Literature lesson. Friday Last Friday, we had our Literature lesson as usual. We were introduced about 'Qualities of Mercy'. Mr Chua told us to write down the meaning of 'Mercy' in our own words. I wrote 'Mercy is a significant of forgiveness', which is quite correct to the actual meaning. The actual meaning is 'Compassion towards an offender, an enemy, or someone in your powers'. Then we were told to read 1 part of the story in the text which is the dialog part about it focused on 'Mercy'. Then we were told to ask Mr Chua if some words in the text that we are unclear of. After the explanation of some words that we were unclear of, Mr Chua told us to highlight words or sentence in the text which are example for the meaning of 'Mercy'. Then we were given a worksheet about 'What is Mercy' thus we are required to answer the following question. We also need to explain 'Why our God is merciful'. For example, for the Muslim, they need to explain why our God is merciful. This also applies to the other religion about why their God is merciful. Thus we were required to share it with our fellow classmates during our next Literature lesson. That`s all for this week Literature lesson. Friday, January 22, 2010 7:59 PM   Term 1 Week 3 Learning Log Today we had our Literature lesson. So today we learnt about Merchant of Venice. Its about Antonio,Portia,Shylock and Bassanio. This are the main character in the story. I shall elaborate about the story which Mr Chua shared it with us.The story goes like tis ; Bassanio and Portia is a couple who love each other. Bassanio wishes to win her love but he is too poor to do so. So he seek help from his best friend called Antonio. Bassanio asked Antonio if he could lend him about 3000 ducats so that he could impressed Portia. Antonio who had an overseas business and waited to recieve his money bck, borrowed from a Jewish moneylander called Shylock. Shylock ageed to lend him money but to one condition. Antonio must pay back the money on the exact dae promised. But if he couldn`t manage to pay it on that day, Shylock will take one pound of Antonio`s flesh as payment. For the sake of his best friend, Antonio agreed. Bassanio and Portia married soon after. Unfortunately, a bad news arrives. Antonio`s ship sank to the bottom of the sea,thus, he could`t get his money back and could`t return the money which he borrowed frm Shylock. Shylock goes before the court of Venice to get his pound of flesh. Hearing that, Bassanio`s wife, Portia worked out a plan. She disguised herself as a male lawyer. The story thus continues. After that, Mr Chua gave us a task. We need to write out one of the character attitude which had been told. For example, I got a character which is about Portia. Trait| Explain ______________________________ 1) Smart | This is because..... 2) ........... | This is because..... 3) ........... | This is because....... 4) ........... | This is because........ Ok. So its goes something like that. So thats all for today Literature lesson. Friday, January 15, 2010 6:18 PM   Term 1 Week 2 Learning Log Today we had literature lesson. Mr Chua didn`t attend today so there is a relief teacher. She`s a lady. She is also a literature teacher. So there it goes. Today I learnt about a famous writer William Shakespeare. He wrote quite a couple of story. Some story that he wrote are Romeo & Juliet, Macbeth, Merchant of Venice etc. But today I was taught about one story which is about Macbeth. I will share half of the story where i could remember correctly. There are 3 bad witches and they are made an evil plan to do meet up with Macbeth. We were taught halfway about the story because of insufficent time. If want know more about the story, I shall give you the links for you to go and read. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macbeth Some words in the story may find difficult to understand it but it also helps to improve our volcabulary. So at the end of the lesson, me and my fellow classmates were given a homework to do. We must draw the setting about Macbeth on a A4 paper. We must pass up the homework given on this upcoming Friday. Wednesday, January 13, 2010 6:37 PM  Term 1 Week 1 Learning Log The 1st lesson we learnt is about 'cinquain'. Cinquain is like a short poem but using 5-line. The words are like 1 word letter to describe something such as school. 2 example of cinquain:~ Evergreen Helpful Friendly Sporting Thinking Enterprising My school is lovely. Memories --------------------------------------------------------------- 2 Dynamic Noisy Lively Entertaining Clowning Smiling My class is crazy. Home So thats are the 2 example of cinquain. Any further things about literature lesson I have learnt, i shall update. So stay tune. ;) |
